Hi! This site is interesting!

The title for today’s blog is an homage to spammers.

I have nothing but random thoughts to offer this evening…

  • Breakfast in America. I was thinking this morning, as I went on my walk around Pigspittle, about my encounter with a former member of Supertramp. It was just days after 9/11 and I was attending a performing arts conference in Minneapolis. The Supertramp guy, whose name escapes me, was there to represent his light/sound extravaganza. We sat at the same table with some other folks for breakfast. I nearly blurted something stupid about having “breakfast in America,” but like I said, it was maybe four or five days after 9/11 and we were all too gloomy and a little traumatized by traveling. I’m guessing the Supertramp guy had heard enough puns on “Breakfast in America” to last a lifetime anyway.
  • I can’t get 9/11 out of my head. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of it. I’m not thinking about terrorism, I’m not terrified all the time. Rather, it’s like how the deaths of my parents still linger. I think of them both daily. An image or sound will brush up against memory, remind me of my father’s hands or my mom’s favorite coffee cup. It’s like that with 9/11. An enduring sadness that hovers around my shoulders.
  • Stop right there and look around. This morning, bleary-eyed and pouring my first cup of coffee, I hear my husband say, “Come here.” I walk over to where he’s standing in the doorway. “Look at that,” he says, pointing to the wall. A tilted brilliance of sunlight is streaming in, and our orange kitchen walls glow. How did I get so lucky?
  • We got a new camera. I’ll be posting pics of my garden soon. And maybe, too, of the house with the giant eagle statues (seriously, they’re at least 3 feet high each) and the “God Bless America” sign.

This site IS interesting. I’m particularly interested in seeing pictures of your garden. I would show pictures of my patio, but it’s just a barren concrete slab right now. It does have a lovely teak table, but I can’t afford to get chairs to go with it. On the other hand, the view from the south-east corner is bad ass. You have to lean over the rail to see it, though.

Hey, Meg! Can you run that scary picture of the giant cross again, too? That’s the best.
