Been a Long Time

Not long ago a friend told me he missed my blog. I don’t know about others who blog, but when someone tells me they actually miss reading mine, well, I’m motivated to start posting again. (Thanks, Jake!) Toiling in obscurity is not so bad when at least one person is reading, right?

Trying to clear out the cobwebs on this site…my “quote of the week” is at least 10 weeks old and should be sprouting mold now. I’ve been busy working on the Obama campaign, working at work, and spent a week at a writing workshop where I learned that men over 60 really like to write about sex. (I cringed every time he read his work.) My garden looks like it has taken steroids—the asters and spirea, the redbud tree and purple loosestrife are mad with new growth. The whistlepigs didn’t fare so well this spring. We found one chewed up along the side of the road to the Davidians. For days afterward, the mate made crazy dashes into the field filling his mouth with broadleaf, carrying it back to the shed, while we watched knowing that there would be no pups this year.

So this weekend is the 4th of July and I’m pitched in politics, registering new voters, organizing our little group of Obama supporters, trying not to watch the news, with all its soap-opera narrative, and hoping to have time to clean my house.

Feels good to be back.
