The Jesus Hand

Deliverence

from a distance

As promised, the giant Jesus-hand sign. Note: the greenery behind the cross are trees, not shrubs. Photo credit: OG and Uck, © 2007.

That’s a big cross, Magoo. The cartoonish bloodsplats are the most disturbing part of the whole thing. How’s it anchored? With that angle it looks unstable.

I’ve added the long-range view, Puddlehead. It’s difficult to say how it’s anchored—I’ve never actually gotten out of the car to look at it close up. It’s one of those roads where you don’t really want to stop and get out, especially if you’re a woman.

Love the cartoon blood splats. What were they thinking?

It’s anchored by miracle, I tell you. In Western Kansas, there’s a Calvary scene on a small hill which, the few times I’ve seen it, has bugged me out. They even put Christmas lights on it. I’m not even anti-religious; there’s just something about flagrant and creepy expressions of faith, any faith.
