This week Scout discovered lightning bugs. We took her outside at dusk earlier in the week when it was warmer. She caught dozens, often with just one paw. She’s pretty proud of herself.
I wonder what sense(s) help her find the lightning bugs, as sight is the obvious one that would be used. Do the bugs make a sound? (I know that probably sounds like a dumb question, but I live in Arizona – we don’t have lighting bugs here!)
I’m glad you like her, Janna. She’s an amazing kitty. Yes, I think she senses them through hearing. Lightning bugs don’t make a lot of flapping or buzzy noises that I can hear, but that’s the only explanation. She can hear gnats. It gets kinda hard for her being outside sometimes because her senses of smell and hearing are assaulted. Pouncing on lightning bugs is pretty fun to watch though!
Your kitty makes me smile 🙂
